Is a vet kennel a bad place to leave a dog on vacation?

Going to drop my doggy off at the Vet in a couple of hours to leave on vacation. I've seen the area where they keep them and they're pretty big, they play with them, walk them, feed them, etc. He's never stayed anywhere else before though. Has anyone had any experience with leaving their dogs at a vet kennel?

How can I get my dogs well & find out what is wrong with them?

I have 3 Labs. I don't know exactly how to describe what is wrong, but I will try. They have a terrible crouping gagging gasping dry sounding cough. At times they sound like a pig oinking or a goose honking. It's as if something is caught in their throats. They also seem to have trouble breathing in & out of their noses off & on, making strange gasping noises through them as well. I am so worried. I've taken them to a couple different vets, but they don't cough while there, of course. They check out fine otherwise. I was told it's kennel cough. I've tried steroids, anti-inflamatory drugs, & antibiotics now. Vet also had me buy OTC cough medicine for them. Nothing is helping. It has been 11 days now. What is wrong & what can I do to help my poor babies (dogs)? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

New dog refuses to go down any stairs?

How do i train my dog not to run in the road?

Well the best thing I would say to do is to start VERY early with leash training. Start by teaching him to not pull and walk by your side and by that time you should teach him that whenever you stop he should sit right next to you immediately. At that point, you can teach him to sit at the curb and wait for the command to cross. It will take a lot of time, although I've had a German Shepherd and he was a GREAT dog to train, but in the end its worth every moment when your dog accidentally gets out and you find him out sitting by a curb hahaha hope this helps and good luck!

Why could my dog be coughing?

For over 24 hours now, my dog has had a cough. It's not a wheezing coughing like it would be if it were kennel cough, but a cough that would be similar to if a person inhaled water or food and was coughing (or trying to cough) it up. He is a chesapeake bay retriever, full grown at two years old, and has never had any health problems before. This has not affected his personality at all, he still acts the same and has the same energy he had before, I just feel useless in the sense that I don't know how to help this cough. My first thought was that he may have inhaled something, but I think that he may have coughed it up if he had.. What else could make him cough? Is there a way to help him or should I take him to the veterinarian?

I was offered a job on March initially, but because of the large volume of new hirings, they had to delay my hiring. I need help with crate training!!! need experienced answere!?

I adopted a two year old toy poodle ( about 5 pounds) I've been trying to crate train her for almost two months. She is in a very small wire kennel for her size. ( she only has enough room to sit or lay down.) But she pees and poops where she lays. I take her potty with my other dog (also 5 pounds) four times a day. I feel so bad for.her because I keep her in there most of the time, if I don't she poops and pees on the sofa! I just don't understand what could be going wrong. Dogs aren't supposed to like deficating where they lay! On the rare occasion my other dog has an accident in her crate she would be crammed in the corner as if it would burn her if she touched it. This dog dances in it! Yuck I tried taking them potty together 5 times a day and after she's peed outside she'll potty in it two hours later. 5 month old puppy cries when she's put out at night?

We've had her since she was about 7 weeks old and had the usual puppy trouble for the first week or so.. But now she is a few months older she sleeps outside at night and until very recently, has went out at night and gone straight into the kennel and that was her till the morning. Yes it should be fine, because like you I also live in Australia and keep my two guinea pigs outside in a cage on my patio and because its cold at night at the moment I cover the cage up with sheets so they dont get to much of the cold wind and I also put alot of straw in the cage so they can burrow and keep warm in and they are fine. Dog Kennel size help, please!?

I would go with 10x20 if you have the space. My dog has a kennel she stays in during the day while I am at work. It has a concrete pad (6x12) that has a roof over it where her doghouse and water is. The rest is pea gravel (good drainage and keeps her cleaner in wet weather). It is roughly half the size of my backyard. She is also fed there (she eats raw), but sleeps in a crate in my bedroom 98% of the time, and spends the majority of every evening inside with me after I get home from work. I feel there is no reason for a dog to be inside the house when I am not there (they ARE animals, and being outside is actually GOOD for them. It's not like wolves have access to shelter in the wild), but when I am home, she spends time inside with me.

I doubt your dog would get kennel cough without having direct contact with the puppy. Is you dog up to date on all vaccinations including kennel cough? If so then your fine. Just in case I would wash your clothes and spray your shoes with antibacterial. The best bet would be to call the vet, but if you don't want to, I would say just keep an eye on your dog to see if he/she changes. If you want to know more about kennel cough google it. But I think your dog will be fine.

My number one symptom in the beginning of my pregnancy was exhaustion. I was so incredibly tired all the time!! You will not know unless you take a pregnancy test. Just go out and get one. It is quite possible that you are pregnant. For some people it takes longer! I am 21 and my hubby is 23. It took us 5 months of trying before success. I found on my doctors visits that I am in excellent health! There is a small window of time each month of when you can get pregnant. My husband was contacted by a company based off his resume on a job website. He is an IT engineer. Before starting the interview process he was told they would do a credit check, my husband told him he had bad credit, the recruiter told him it was fine. 4 interviews later he was given a job offer. They liked him so much they offered him 10,000 more than the jobs base pay. The next day FedEx dropped off a new hire packet, with pay and benefit package, and a start date. My husband put in his notice and today week before start date, was told they were retracting the offer due to his credit. They said if he could prove he is in repayment with the defaults then they may still consider him, which we are in repayment, so he can give proof. Is there anything else we can do? We have been dealt some seriously bad cards the last few years, and our credit reflects that.. but it seems so wrong for a job offer to retracted for credit, especially for someone who is working on servers. He is a hard worker, and credit score does not reflect his ability to do work. Our plan was to get debt free by this time next year with his new job salary.

Keeping my dog outside now?

We have 6 dogs. We have a lab mix who had not been outside and we put outside full time at 3 years old without doing it slowly. She barked a lot, but after a month of shock collar on low and she was fine. If he barks a lot keep him in the house until you can get a shock collar, but I would only increase how long he is out there by a half hour a night.

Dogs have to go potty after naps. So pay close attention to thoes spicific times. Walk 30 mins b4 any food or water,& 15 after. U have to remember puppies r kinda like new borns their still figureing out how stuff works, including their bodies. Get a ceasar milan book from the library or store. If there is anything dental you need to know (e.g. the tooth numbers, what certain procedures are, etc) you can learn that on the job. However, being a dental assistant required training and I don't think it's something you can learn entirely on the job.

I received my email confirming I was hired and that all I had to do was do some paper work via the New Associate Wizard via XPressHR Onboarding. You can report to animal control and let them handle it...however if they don't find an issue the dog will be left where it is...as for the barking all night, either go over there and nicely let the neighbors know the dog's barking is keeping you up or call the cops and let them handle it (but it's always best to try to handle those things yourself before involving the law)...

Which path should I take?

Here's the deal: I am about to be a Junior in college. I finished two years and I have another two to go. During the time before I entered college, I decided to major in Education, which I think may have been a mistake. I'm a good teacher and I did well student teaching, but I feel as though I lack the passion or desire to do so. I recently realized that I have a true passion for animals. I love all kinds of animals and I honestly feel as though I would be very happy pursuing a career in which I took care of animals: maybe opening up my own shelter, kennel, or something of the like. The thing is, although I love being a teacher, I would be happier taking the alternate approach, but right now I feel stuck. Since he is in a kennel at night and does ok, you should consider putting him in the kennel when you leave and then tell who ever is home to let her out in about an hour, this way the dog will know that whoever let her out is ok, and might accept them while you are gone, I would try crating her during the day for about an hour so that she know it is ok to be in it while you are not there, Once she gets used to that she will be ok when you leave.

Does it sound like I take care of my rabbits properly?

I think you're taking car of your rabbits just fine. You're giving them time to roam, cleaning their cages, giving them proper food, and interacting with them. Ive seen people house their rabbits in SUPER small cages and not clean it out regularly like they should. The only thing I would add is that if it is hot outside, put a frozen water bottle in the cage so the rabbits can lay on it. But overall good job:)

Legal to start a new teaching job while being pregnant?

I'm a teacher but currently unemployed and looking for work, and currently 3 months pregnant. When the school year starts, I will be 5 months pregnant. I will need to take maternity leave in January/February. I really need a job, but I am afraid to tell the employer during the interview that I am expecting. I'm not showing now, so I can get away with it. But when school starts, I will be showing so I know they will know the obvious by that point and will probably be rather surprised when the new teacher shows up knocked up on the first day of school. Is it legal for me to not tell my employer that I'm pregnant until the school year starts? I'm afraid if I do, then they will not hire me. Hello. I am an assistant manager for a local gym in my area. My general manager quit about 4 months ago and we hired a new general manager. I trained her for about 2 months. She has never done the job right. I have assumed most of her responsibilities while she spends most of her days working out while on the job. A member complained to the owner of the gym. The owner came to me and asked me about it. I told him the truth. She is lazy and abuses her authority. She calls off all the time leaving me to have to come in and fill in on my off days. What are some good teen books?

I don't believe that people give Neal Shusterman enough credit. His book "Full Tilt" is easily in my top five best books ever, and hey, I read adult fiction. Not to say it's similar to adult fiction as it is still a teen novel, but yeah. Full Tilt was amazing-- better than a lot of other books of his I've read. It's about a boy who gets trapped in a phantom carnival and has to try and find his brother while he has to ride seven rides in order to get out . . . and he also only has a certain time to do it.

Boarding dogs - Got home sick?

Once your dogs get back on their regular diet and routine, they will most likely be back to normal. I would not feed them for 24 hours. This will give their system a rest which will help cleanse them from the toxins caused from the poor quality dog food. Reintroduce their regular food slowly by offering several small meals through out the day for several days. Make sure that all are drinking water. If may take a week or so for your ACD to build his weight back up so be patient. Next time find another friend to leave them with, hire a pet sitter or board them in a kennel. This way you'll have some recourse if your instructions are not followed.

Personally, I read Speak and loved it, overall it was a fantastic book! I think this idea sounds great, although it could use a little more uph to it, I like how you plan to start from the future into the past at the beginning, I think it makes the storyline more interesting. We live in the midwest, Illinois to be more exact, near the Mississippi River. Minimum wage is about $8 an hour here and I do not make too much more than that. I have just done badly on a Linear Algebra/Differential Equations midterm and it does not help that an 11 year old kid is getting a hundred percent continually,effectively leaving no curve. How to choose a playful puppy from the litter?

I think the puppy will be just as playful at home. It seems that the puppy is comfortable at the kennels, there for it acts normal. If it were not comfortable it would deffinately not be as outgoing. So I think if the puppy seems to be comfortable with you, then it should be fine. This puppy sounds like a great pick for the type of dog you want. If it seems to like you and acts that way when its comfortable, then when it gets to your home it should be pretty comfortable, just for the fact of you being there, although it may take a day or to for it to get use to a different atmosphere. My dog killed a kitten?

I have a rescue dog, Had it for nearly two years now. We ended up with it as originally we fostered it for a friend who runs a rescue centre till it could be sent to the RSPCA to be re-homed. The dog hates being confined anywhere, which is why we took it. It was being kept in a centre and was driving them crazy barking all the time. Well, the dog went to the rspca who kept it confined (they were supposed to be sending to a foster home) which made it play up and they said it cant be re-homed and must be put down. We told them we would take it back rather than put it down, and so have had it since. The dog is a bit of an escape artist, jumps high fences, slips his lead/collar/harness and runs amok in general. It dislikes other dos, HATES cats (we have some) and if it sees any animal smaller than itself turns into a bully.It escaped off its coller and chain last night (during the day it stays out back on a chain as it escapes otherwise) and ran to our neighbors farm (over the road) my hubby went after it, went into their yard and noticed a small kennel with kittens. He closed the door, but left it open a bit in case the mother came back. Our dog ran past, saw the kittens pulled them all out shook, 2 of them, then killed the 3rd. My hubby tried to get him off the kitten, but every-time he went near, the dog snapped at him. He eventually managed to get his lead on and dragged him off (too late for the poor kitten though). We are at our wits end now. We cant keep the dog indoors because of our cats plus young children, and the dogs hate being confined in a room. We cant confine this dog as it will escape (our other dog does not) and as we live in a farming community, if it goes near or harasses any other animals, it will probably end up shot. I think we should get shot asap, hubby wants to try and train the dog, but is busy on a farm and does not really have the time. Does anyone have any advice/suggestions? Thank you

4 yr golden retriever grew up with one dog in 10x10 kennel?

He grew up with his dad in a 10x10 kennel. No training. He was active in the kennel and I'm sure he has never been in the house. I have had him for 3 days now and he has not left my dining room. Day 3 with parvo: Any advice/tips appreciated!?

I don't think there are any remedies that are successful. I think the only way to cure it is if you caught it early then maybe. But to be honest I think you should just let nature take its course. I had a dog with parvo and we spent more than $2000 dollars at the vet for him and nothing worked. The vet told use dog who get parvo will most likely die the majority of the time.

2 yr old dog has separation anxiety away from his brother?

What is wrong with my dog?

I would say yes they are just natural emotional reactions, maybe he was hungry but perhaps the shots put him off and have made him feel down. I've noticed that with a lot of dogs, especially smaller ones can feel depressed or feeling down when they've had something done to them, like had shots, probably just a phase that some dogs go through after they've had some sort of treatment, I'm sure it will soon pass, I wouldn't worry about it but if it doesn't, you know where the vet is, I'm sure they will fix it if their is any real problem with your dog.

Ways to not my my dog so much while on Vacation?

Going to be going to Florida for a week on vacation with my family... My vet has this thing where they can stay all night there. He'll be in a big kennel type cage most of the day and they play with them and walk them 1 hour a day... He may be sad though because he's never stayed anywhere else but on my bed before.... Dog passed away - heart faulure or tumour?

My Yorkshire terrier girl 15years of age passed away in the early hours of this morning(5.am). She experienced some fast short shallow breathing and occasional coughing, also a bit of sickness. We put the coughing down to kennel cough as her companion had just suffered from it. We took her to the vets within 2 hours who tested her heartbeat and chest, he told us within minutes that she was in a critical condition and might not make it through the night. He said she had fluid in the lungs and her heart was very weak which could not pump properly around the body and the fluid out...but he also said she had a tumour in her stomach which we had previously check out and been told it was a milk duct?. He was adament it was in fact a tumour.. although his main concern was the fluid on teh lungs and weakness of the heart. We are very confused at what the likelyness of death was. She had been perfectly fine in previous months and days!...eating properly, playing, barking. it was all so sudden. She had experienced minor hair loss. I understand there is nothing we can do now but if you could just give me an insight in to what you think it was down to i would be greatly appreciative. She was very happy and showed know sign of pain. We were allowed to take her home and her breathing slowed down through the night untill she gradually took her last breath.

Dog 1 and 1/2 year old bloody liquid stool ?

My dog (pitbull terrier) has all her shots and was even given a parvo booster shot a little over 2 weeks ago. She was around puppy's who died of parvo after which she was taken to the vet checked on and was updated on her vaccinations. Last night around 5 am she started having normal diarrhea this morning her first stool was basically completely liquid it was blood colored and smelled like blood. She vomited this morning 3 times followed by her first bloody diarrhea at which point I took her immediately to the vet. She was given a parvo and blood test both of which came back as negative. I have all kinds of medications antibiotics to give her. But I and the vet are baffled what is this? Has any1 experienced something like this? I also have a male (bully pitbull) who is one year who is showing no signs at all the are separated and he is in the Kennel until I finish rebleaching the yard and house I've already spent 500$ and I have no real answers on what this is! I just want my baby to be ok both of them! Any information would be great!

Training a Ferrell kitten?

you didnt say how old the kittens were which i am assuming they were at least 4-5 weeks old or they would have died from not being able to nurse. it has been said in most of the cat journals and books i have read that the best way to introduce her to a new surrounding is to first confine her to one room.i think she needs to see a vet to be sure she gets her shots and has no feline leukemia. i would not worry about her getting stuck but keep her in a room where the likelihood of that is lessened. if you keep her in a bedroom be sure all the wires are off the floor so she doenst chew them andget shocked. let her hide if she wants to but i would advise, first a bathroom where the toilet lids are kept closed at all times. when you open the door there isnt many places she can hide and you can pet her and spend time with her. talk to her sweetly offering treats which can be just a piece of dried cat food. brush her and spend time with her then let her go to other rooms. she should be fine and will get used to people but in the beginning, handling is critical. i have a friend, believe it or not that has a cat named precious. precious is commonly referred to as the couch dweller. she is now 4 years old and dlives under ther couch. she has only come out to eat and use the litter box.other than that you rarely even see her and cannot pet her. she was a ferrel that they caught but let it hide all the time. she is beautiful but scared to death of people which is why i advise a bathroom as it is used frquentlt, has people coming and going and people can catch her and pet her easily. after a month or so when you can pick her up without her running away, move her into a bedroom. once she starts jumping up on your bed to be wih you and sleep with you, then you can work up to the rest of the house because she will have spent a month in your room and a month in the bathroom and view them as safe places to go.good luck.sorry about the loss of your cat.hope this one will be an indoor cat so that doesnt happen to it too.

I think in your situation it would be the best choice. And that way you can still be a part of the baby's life. I think you could wait til the baby's a little older and then explain to them why you chose adoption. And at that point, I think they'll not only understand but theyll be happy for the family they have. And he or she will still know that you love him or her and will always be there. Ideas on how to promote pet adoption in my community?

That sounds like a good idea. :) I really would like to volunteer at my local animal shelter, I might look into it. What my local animal shelter did was have this "party" thing, I didn't go but I saw it on the news and on their website and I guess they had their dogs running around or something and games and food, something to attract visitors you know. :) Maybe you get a classified ad in the newspaper advertising it, or a attractive sign in a popular local shop or just in the community where people put yard sale signs promoting it. Maybe somehow you could gather people who have adopted from there and you can brainstorm together. Good luck with getting people involved. :)

Dog passed away - heart failure or tumour?

My Yorkshire terrier girl 15years of age passed away in the early hours of this morning(5.am). She experienced some fast short shallow breathing and occasional coughing, also a bit of sickness. We put the coughing down to kennel cough as her companion had just suffered from it. We took her to the vets within 2 hours who tested her heartbeat and chest, he told us within minutes that she was in a critical condition and might not make it through the night. He said she had fluid in the lungs and her heart was very weak which could not pump properly around the body and the fluid out...but he also said she had a tumour in her stomach which we had previously check out and been told it was a milk duct?. He was adament it was in fact a tumour.. although his main concern was the fluid on teh lungs and weakness of the heart. We are very confused at what the likelyness of death was. She had been perfectly fine in previous months and days!...eating properly, playing, barking. it was all so sudden. She had experienced minor hair loss. I understand there is nothing we can do now but if you could just give me an insight in to what you think it was down to i would be greatly appreciative. She was very happy and showed know sign of pain. We were allowed to take her home and her breathing slowed down through the night untill she gradually took her last breath.

Puppy Keeps barking in the kennel!?

I got my 7 week lab puppy last Saturday and im trying to kennel train him but all he does i bark and cry! i've put treats in the kennel . I've put his toys in the kennel. I've put a towel with his moms scent in the kennel. I've even put a clock that ticks on top of the kennel and i've put the tv on so he wont feel so alone! During the day ill put him in his kennel so just incase i have to leave one day he will be used to it..but he just barks like crazy! and ignore it all the time but it happens everyday! but at night he' fine with going in the kennel! he's doesnt bark at night! why could this be? and how can i stop the barking during the day?

I have also been working with Vocational Rehabilitation to get a job, but my health seriously limits my ability to work as the Disability application mentions. How to deal with a dog with ADHD, drug have not helped?

I have a 1 year old Black and Tan hound mix. I notice he exhibits ADHD symptoms. He can't sit still for long, can never settle/relax, always running, panting, vocalizing, jumping up, always moving, distracted, and hard to train. He also has seperation anixety, when I leave in the morning to go to work he tries to eat through the front door to come after me. I had to put him in a kennel while I am gone, and then he cries, barks, pants, licks the cage and hyperventalates. I would try to play with him, one minute he wants to play the other he doesn't. It is really hard to deal with this dog. He is exercised (playing ball and walking), but after a few minutes he's hyper again, so we take him for a couple of mile run every night; he gets home and 20 minutes later he is ready to go again. He's like the energizer bunny. The vet first gave him prosac, but that did not help; the lastest thing was clomacalm 80 mg, I gve him 2 pills twice a day, nothing. He is a smart dog he will do things like sit, stay, laydown, and rollover but only when he wants and only when you have a treat in your hand. Please HELP! I have tried 8 months now and nothing has worked yet. I am tempted to try and contact Ceasar Milan/ Dog Whisper

Our dog has antagonized the obnoxious people next door for months. They are fed up and so are we, because she jumps the fence and we cannot keep her in the kennel very long (trainers directions). If they are so cruel, why do pet stores sell them? If she is in her own backyard on the extra long chain that she can get to her food and water to, can someone legally come in the backyard and holler cruelty?

I'm 15 and I applied to a job about a month ago and just last Friday (the 18th) I called and talked to the manager and I asked her if she got my application and she said yes and that they might be hiring within the next 1-2 weeks so she would call me. Open adoption a good idea or not?

I think in your situation it would be the best choice. And that way you can still be a part of the baby's life. I think you could wait til the baby's a little older and then explain to them why you chose adoption. And at that point, I think they'll not only understand but theyll be happy for the family they have. And he or she will still know that you love him or her and will always be there. Why won't my kitten stop meowing?

She's about 3 weeks old. She was given to me by a lady that adopted her and her littermates after their mom died. I feed her canned cat food and she eats it without a problem. I usually have her inside of a kennel (for about a week longer, just so she gets used to the house and doesn't run away since she is going to be an outside cat). I've got her inside right now and she's been walking around but will not stop meowing, and sometimes when i left her out to play she also keeps meowing. If you want to double major and it won't be too much work, do that. If not you can always get a BA in English and get your Master's in Journalism, I've heard a lot of people doing that. I have a 5 year old male Australian Shepherd. I live in the country on a busy road. When he was about a year old he broke his tie out and I had to rescue him from the Human Society with a ticket to appear in court for failure to confine my dog (even though he broke his tie out, dragging 10 feet of lead and having his tags, I still got fined). I have kept him chained when he is outside. I have unchained him to try to play ball or catch with him but everytime he takes off to the neighbors orchard and field. He always comes back but I am afraid of him chasing a rabbit, squirrel or cat into the road and being picked up again by the Humane Society or hit by a car. How do you become "registered". I know that the AKC, UKC and other registries don't "register" breeders unless something has changed some where. I know that kennel names can be registered but that isn't the same. Now a "registered" breeder through the USDA is someone that I would not buy a puppy from as those are commercial kennels Do breeders have to be "registered" in Canada or the UK? A Qwest tech replaced a phone jack, will I be charged?

My internet was down for two weeks and after calling customer service numerous times for the past week, they finally got someone to come out to my house. The tech guy comes into my house and wants to check the phone jack that leads directly into the modem. I didn't realize that "checking" meant replacing the jack with a new one. Qwest's policy is that they give you the options of doing it yourself, hiring an outside technician, or having the Qwest tech fix it, but this Qwest tech guy just did it without asking and left before I can ask anything. He left without saying anything about being charged for the service, nor did I have to sign anything or do any paperwork that proves the work was done. I'm hoping he fixed for free, but I'm afraid it would show up in a later bill for +$100. Did anyone have a different experience after a fix?

Any toys are usually good for dogs, as long as they can't rip off pieces and try to chew them. As long as it's like hard plastic, or rubber. It should be okay. You can buy toys for dogs at Pet-smart, that you put treats inside and that occupies them for a long time. Good Luck!

My 27 year old daughter has been a total burden to me because of her supposed mental issues. But thank god, my next child (son) is perfect, and IS allowed to remain in my life.
