Is this weatherproof enough?

Yes it should be fine, because like you I also live in Australia and keep my two guinea pigs outside in a cage on my patio and because its cold at night at the moment I cover the cage up with sheets so they dont get to much of the cold wind and I also put alot of straw in the cage so they can burrow and keep warm in and they are fine.
